What’s New in AutoCAD 2027: A Guide to the Latest Features

AutoCAD 2027 introduces new tools to improve collaboration, drawing accuracy, and productivity, including Autodesk Forma data management integration, Geometry Cleanup, and the AI‑powered Autodesk Assistant. In this guide, we highlight the key Autodesk 2027 updates and explain how they support more efficient, connected workflows for design teams.

Data Management

AutoCAD 2027 now includes direct integration with Forma Data Management (formerly Autodesk Docs) from the home screen, allowing users to access and sync cloud‑based projects. The Autodesk Desktop Connector is required to enable this functionality within AutoCAD.

Geometry Cleanup

On the Manage tab, the Geometry Cleanup tool is now available.

Selecting Geometry Cleanup opens a dialog box prompting the user to select objects.

This dialog allows tolerances to be defined for the selected geometry.

Selecting Scan analyses the objects and identifies potential errors.

Hovering over a highlighted error displays the available fix options.

This tool is particularly useful when editing old drawings, especially when reviewing existing geometry. There are situations where you may need to assess an existing drawing and identify areas using the Boundary tool, only to find that it doesn’t recognise a boundary due to gaps or undershot geometry—this is where the tool proves invaluable.

Autodesk Assistant

The new AI assistant embedded within AutoCAD provides a clear benefit, allowing issues to be researched in real time without disrupting the drafting workflow.

Here for example I can ask the assistant to explain how annotative objects work or type in another question.

I typed in “How do I create an Boundary” and immediately I have a comprehensive answer directly in the Assistant.

Checkout

As working practices become increasingly collaborative, drawings are often edited by multiple team members who may not be co‑located. When a drawing is opened from a project stored in the cloud using Forma Data Management, it can be edited and saved back to the cloud, making it available to the wider team.

If a drawing is already open by one project team member, another team member can still open the same drawing; however, it will be available to them in read‑only mode.

While the drawing is open in read‑only mode, the second user can check out specific parts of the drawing that they wish to modify. These selected elements are then locked for editing by that user. The checkout process creates a Trace, allowing the read‑only user to make proposed changes.
These changes are not written directly to the original drawing. Instead, they are submitted to the primary user for review.

Once the changes have been submitted, the read‑only drawing can be closed.

In the primary (editable) drawing session, the Traces palette will indicate that a checkout review has been submitted and identify the contributing user.

Selecting the checked out modification on the traces dialogue will display the trace and allow the user to either merge that modification or cancel it.

Selecting merge will then import the changes, allowing the drawing to be updated.

All mentioned features are demonstrated in detail in the video featured above. As a collaborative drafting tool, this workflow supports effective teamwork by enabling real‑time review of revisions and controlled integration of edits across distributed teams.
