Autodesk Software: Issues & Errors Solved!

We’ve noticed that there have been a few issues and errors reported about a number of Auotdesk 2018 products, so we’ve outlined below what we’ve come across.


Issue:

When you launch an Autodesk product on a MAC the “Let’s Get Started” screen does not show the option to Sign In.

Causes:

This could be the result of a proxy configuration or a communications issue preventing the licensing component from detecting that an internet connection is present. This is especially true when the internet connection is so slow that it does not give the licensing component sufficient time to verify an internet connection.


Solution:

Manually create the following folder:
/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/CLM/LGS/ {product code}_201x.0.0.F/

Substitute the folder name for the product that you have installed:
657I1_2017.0.0.F/     for Maya 2017
777I1 _2017.0.0.F/     for AutoCAD for MAC 2018
827I1 _2017.0.0.F/     for AutoCAD LT for MAC 2018

In that folder create a file  – LGS.data. Open the file you just created with a simple text editor and add the line   _USER   This is to indicate that your subscription requires that you log in and does not require a serial number.

Issue:

When a drawing is attached as an Xref in AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD MEP, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or AutoCAD Plant 3D, AEC object components that are set to display BYLAYER in the parent file inherit the layer properties of the layer that Xref resides on.

Ex. When the Xref is placed on Layer 0, the object color becomes white instead of the color of the layer the object resides on in the parent file.


Causes:

This is a known issue introduced in the 2018 releases which has been reported to the development team for investigation.

Solution:

Install the 2018.0.1 update for AutoCAD Architecture, MEP and Civil 3D 2018.

For AutoCAD Plant 3D 2018:

  • Adjust the display settings for the affected AEC objects from BYLAYER to specific properties or BYOBJECT.
  • Alternatively, use the 2017 releases where the issue does not occur.

Issue:

When trying to access a BIM 360 Glue® project using Autodesk® Navisworks Manage® 2016, 2017 and 2018, no projects are available to open.
On the BIM 360 tab, the Select Project and Select Model fields are greyed out and no selection is available.


Causes:

This behaviour might occur because one (or all) of the following:

  • Navisworks product is out of date;
  • You are using one or more Navisworks third party add-ins, such as BFC Manager for Navisworks or iConstruct for Navisorks, and the licenses are expired;

Solution:

The solution is to:

  • Install the latest updates for Navisworks 2016, 2017 and 2018 and restart the machine.For further information please see the following article:Navisworks Products 2016 Downloads;
  • Update your licenses for the third-party add-ins.

 


Issue:

You would like to deploy Autodesk® AutoCAD® 2015-2018 Geolocation Online Map Hotfix silently so that installation confirmation windows doesn’t appear at the end.


Solution:

1. Download: Autodesk® AutoCAD® 2015-2018 Geolocation Online Map Hotfix 
2. Unzip the file and extract:

Autodesk_AutoCAD_2015_to_2018_Geolocation_Online_Maps_Hotfix.sfx.exe file
content via command below:
Autodesk_AutoCAD_2015_to_2018_Geolocation_Online_Maps_Hotfix.sfx.exe /qn 

 

3. Then open the following folder:

C:\Autodesk\Autodesk_AutoCAD_2015_to_2018_Geolocation_Online_Maps_Hotfix

 

4. Edit HotfixLauncher.vbs file in notepad.

Change  Dim VerboseMode: VerboseMode = “normal” to  Dim VerboseMode: VerboseMode = “silent”

 

5. Save the file and run the hotfix directly from that edited vbs it will be silent.


Issue:

Users reported that, while inserting a standard content from content library in AutoCAD Mechanical, the size dialog is greyed out and they could only select location or length to place the content in the drawing.

Solution:

This happens if you have Kaspersky Antivirus installed on your machine. Please follow the recommendations in the kaspersky link below on creating exceptions for certain files, https://support.kaspersky.com/11146 

You need to create exceptions in Kaspersky to stop filtering the files in the following paths,

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 2017\Acadm\gef\gdb\contentlib.xml

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 2017\Acadm\gef\gdb\database.cfg


Issue:

You want to install AutoCAD 2018 but you get the error:
Run Setup.exe to install AutoCAD 2018

Solution:

Try to install the software using the Browser Download:

If this should not work, try to perform a clean uninstall and reinstall the software again:


Issue:

When trying to run Navisworks Manage 2018 you get the following error.

Causes:

Corrupt installation.

Solution:

To resolve this error uninstall Navisworks Manage 2018 and reinstall.
