3D CAD has evolved to the “cloud”. How can Irish companies avail of this breakthrough technology and implement it in their own design departments and more importantly how will todays engineers and designers use it to increase product innovation and deliver even better products than before?
Autodesk have really pulled out all the stops with its latest design tool “Fusion 360“. Fusion is a “hybrid” software tool that has a local installation while capitalising on the power of infinite computing in the cloud.
Fusion 360 is included Free of charge for existing subscription customers and new customers can buy it on an annual subscription. There is currently an “early adopter” price that makes it a good alternative to anyone wanting to add an additional license to their pool without incurring much cost.
Already we have a number of customers using Fusion 360 for part creation and full assembly design. The 2D function is also a very effective tool for anyone detailing existing 3D cad parts and assemblies from Inventor, Creo, Pro-Engineer and Solidworks.
Yes…. It opens all the popular file formats and allows you to edit existing features and geometry making collaboration with suppliers and customers easier than ever before. You can also even combine parts and assemblies from different CAD applications and simulate the function of the design.
It doesn’t stop there! Fusion 360 also has full maufacturing capabilities meaning that you can generate NC code from parts and output to your CNC machines.
Because it is cloud based you can easily share the design at any stage with collaborators and influencers to convey design intent and design changes in real time.
Fusion 360 can be used on any device anywhere…..PC, Tablet, Phone and Mac.
