Product Errors: Solved!

Product Errors: Solved!

We’ve noticed that there have been a few issues and errors reported about many different Autodesk products, so we’ve outlined solutions below to what we’ve come across.

Issue: Error 1325 – Favourites is not a valid short file name

AutoCAD 2018 is working fine under the Windows user account it was installed from, however, when launched from other Windows user accounts you receive Error 1325: Favorites is not a valid short file name.

Solution:

1. Open Registry editor
2. Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
3. Back up Favorites original value (e.g. \\DO-SV1\Home\05000\Favorites)
4. Change Favorites value to %USERPROFILE%\Favorites
5. Start AutoCAD 2018
6. After AutoCAD opens, close it and change Favorites value to the original value

Issue: 3ds Max – Error Loading Plug-in DLL “mentalray.dlz failed to initialize”

When launching 3ds Max you receive an Error Loading Plug-in DLL dialog. The error states the mentalray.dlz file has failed to initialize:

Upon using 3ds Max to render with NVIDIA Mental Ray or Iray, neither are installed and do not appear for selection in the Render Setup drop-down list under Renderer.

Causes:

When installing 3ds Max with the Setup application (*.exe) file or installing NVIDIA’s separate Mental Ray plugin for the 2018 version, the Mental Ray files seem to be installed in the wrong folder or read incorrectly.

Solution:

  1. Copy all of the contents from Plugins\NVIDIA\Bin folder directly in the root directory: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max <version>. (Do not Cut the contents from the folder.)
  2. Start 3ds Max again and the error should not appear and load the render plugins.

Issue: Dialog box error AutoCAD -Corrupted pre install when loading C3D 2018

You receive an error loading Civil 3D 2018:

Causes:

Land Desktop can create problems with Civil 3D and prevent the application from running.

Solution:

To resolve this issue complete the steps in the link to remove Land Desktop

Clean installation of AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2009

Issue: 3ds Max – Unable to locate a backburner.cab

During Autodesk 3ds Max 2018 installation you receive error unable to locate a backburner.cab and installation fails.

Solution:

You need to download 3ds Max 2018 installer from Autodesk Virtual Agent or using Browser Download method and then install the software.

Issue: Reducing the file size of Navisworks models in BIM 360 Glue

A Navisworks model is uploaded into BIM 360 Glue.
When trying to view the model using the BIM 360 Glue app on the iPad, there isn’t enough memory to display the model.

Solution:

To reduce the size of a Navisworks model sent to BIM 360 Glue:

If the file contains NWD files, do this:

1. Open Navisworks 2017 or 2018 and go to Options
2. Enable “Optimise On Load”
3. Open the NWD file and save it
This new version will be optimized and use less memory.

This will not help if the model is made up of only NWC files.
Note that NWF files are not supported by Glue; only NWD and NWC files from Navisworks are supported.

Issue: Many missing elements in Revit 2017 model

Users reported that when opening a Revit 2017 model the following error is received:
The model {filename}.rvt is missing many elements, and it cannot be opened.

Status:

This incident is being investigated for a possible cause and resolution.

Additional Information:

In reviewing the journals, preceding the error, you may see lines recorded similar to the following:

'C ##-MONTH-#### ##:##:##.###; 7:< Owner cache of element {ID} of class SunAndShadowSettings was 32 of class DBViewPlan, now is -1 of class <deleted>
' 7:< DBG_WARN: [ISL] Number of live elements (2) exceeds total (1) in increment#1: line 150 of ModelStorage\Reconsolidater.cpp.

' 8:< FileCheckDiagnostic missing elem {ID}
' 8:< FileCheckDiagnostic ElementStorageSwapout::relinquishToElemTable: 1 missing elements are removed

Note: These lines will likely be recorded in separate journals, and possibly by separate users.

This issue can occur when deleting view templates applied to views with the sun path turned on, and choosing to remove view template references.

Workaround:

  • To prevent/minimize the incidence if this error:

  1. Ensure that the 2017.2.1 update is applied or 2018.0.1 (for Revit 2018). This update addresses one possible cause of missing elements. (The update can be downloaded through the Autodesk Desktop App or from the Autodesk Account Management page.
  2. When deleting view templates, select the option “Choose a replacement view template”, instead of the “Remove view template references” option.
  • To handle the error when it occurs:

  1. If another user has the model open (when the error is reported), go through the following steps to clear the error:
1. In the open model, synchronize using the Compact Central Model option.
2. Have the user encountering the error try creating a new local model.
Note: If the error continues, more than one compact operation may be required.
  • If no copies of the model are open, recover a backup of the model.

We hope some of the solutions to the reported issues we’ve outlined above assist you with any problems your are having. If you are having any other issues with any of your other products, don’t hesitate to contact our support team by clicking HERE
