When trying to use the NWCOUT command in AutoCAD, “Unknown command ‘NWCOUT'” displays at the command line and the command is not recognized. Even though the Navisworks Exporter Plugin has been installed.

Causes:

This issue can have multiple root causes.

Solution:

1. First, make sure the Navisworks NWC Export Utility is installed.

2. If the export utility is installed, and the command still doesn’t work, check to see if the nwexportdbx201#.crx (substitute # for version number) file is loaded as application in AutoCAD:

  • At the command line, enter APPLOAD.
  • Check the list of loaded applications to see if the nwexportdbx201#.crx file is currently being loaded.
  • If it is not loaded, manually load it from the following location:
    • For AutoCAD versions 2014-1016 load the file from the following location:
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Navisworks\201#\nwexport201#\
    • For AutoCAD versions 2017-2018 load the file from the following location:C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\autocad_exporter201#_x64.Addin.bundle\nwexport201#\nwexportdbx201#.crx

3. Make sure the DEMANDLOAD system variable is set to 3.

4. Make sure the affected AutoCAD application is checked in the program’s features:

  • START > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  • Double-click “Autodesk Navisworks 201x Exporters – 64-bit” (or “….Exporter Plug-ins – 64-bit”, depending on the version).
  • Choose “Add or Remove Features”.
  • Check the boxes next to all AutoCAD applications where the NWCOUT command needs to be available.
  • Choose “Update”.
